It’s no secret, living on Roatan has its perks! From the world’s 2nd largest coral reef at your doorstep to unbeatable happy hour sunsets, there’s a reason so many visitors quickly transition to residents. But despite the many perks, those who call Roatan home still struggle with the age-old debate…“What are we going to eat tonight?!” Luckily, commercial development has quickly adapted to accommodate the population’s social demands. Move aside, baleada. There’s some new cuisine in town!
Luna Beach
Luna Beach is a newly constructed boutique resort nestled on the beach between West End and West Bay. Exoctic orchids and lush coconut palms stand out amongst the clean, contemporary architecture. Easily accessible by foot or car, Luna Beach also offers a restaurant and cafe open to the public. Enjoy pork belly tacos topped with fresh avocado and chimol, then wash it down with a Roatan Runner (Dark Rum, Amaretto, and Pineapple Juice) as you catch the sunset from their beachfront pool.
Loretta’s Island Cooking
Loretta’s quaint homestyle restaurant has sparked quite the conversation in West End, quickly becoming one of the highest recommended places to eat amongst locals and tourists alike. There’s something for everyone to enjoy on her authentic menu, from Caribbean Curry to Pasta to Burgers. And the prices simply can’t be beat, with seafood dishes ranging from $10 to $15. Coconut fish? Lemon shrimps? Garlic cream lobster? If you want it, Loretta’s got it! And, if you love deep sea fishing, you can bring your catch of the day for Loretta to prepare.
Marigold Indian Cuisine
Is there anything better than a cozy night at home spent getting unreasonably full on tikka masala? For a long time, this was not an option for residents of Roatan. But now no more! Marigold Indian Cuisine, located in Alba Plaza, offers dine-in and delivery services so you can enjoy your naan in public or in private! Order extra cilantro chutney and thank us later. Bonus, Marigold has plenty of options for vegetarians, and also serves as Fresh Cafe by day.
Macaw Container Market
The newly constructed Macaw Container Market in Coxen Hole is unlike anything Roatan has ever seen. From the unique mediums that comprise its structure to the even more eclectic offerings, Macaw Market is sure to leave you satiated. Even the picky eaters of the family will find a restaurant that suits their taste! Current establishments include a juice bar, Garifuna style cuisine from Tableta de Coco, gyros and more at Spiro’s Barley Cafe, and don’t forget your date night steak at Prime 504!
